Are you prepared for changes to anti-money laundering rules?

Estate agents concerned about recent changes to anti-money laundering legislation will be able to seek guidance from two sector specialists during a forthcoming webinar hosted by Rightmove.

An estimated £10bn is laundered through the UK property market each year, while HMRC data shows fines issued to agencies for AML breaches have risen by 177%, with 170 agents fined a combined £835,000.

The session, which will take place on 25 February, will feature financial crime lawyer Laura Asioli and John Reynolds, co-founder and chief operating officer of Coadjute, who will outline practical steps for compliance, including identifying high-risk transactions, understanding enforcement and record-keeping requirements, and responding to complex AML scenarios.

Jason Charles, head of events and education at Rightmove, said: “It’s more important than ever that agents can access expert help to make sure their teams stay on the right side of the anti-money laundering rules. This is an essential event for anyone completing AML checks– and we’ll have an extended Q&A to address every question we get, including those sent in in advance.

“We’ve also worked alongside David Smith, Partner at Spector Constant and Williams, to create an Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime training course, covering both AML regulation, the anti-bribery and proceeds of crime acts. This course is exclusive to Rightmove members at no extra cost to their membership.”

Agents can sign up now via the Rightmove Hub.
